Born in Sweden back in 1963 by Canadian parents from Germany. I never fit in. I wasn’t Swedish, German or Canadian. Speaking Swedish with a heavy German accent, I was bullied. Tried to emphasize my Canadian citizenship, but with no luck.
About age 28 I needed to decide if I was Swedish, German of Canadian. I didn’t feel Swedish, Germans were too weird and I actually never been to Canada, I just had this passport which made me feel special. If anything, due to my personality, people thought I was American (US). So, I choose Sweden. Started to dig in our history, learn about why Swedes were so “Swedish” etc. Well, here I am, a selfproclaimed expert on Swedish Christmas, Swedes etc. (Helps being a “know-it-all”).
